Hsiang-Hsin Ching, a Taiwanese violist and Audio Engineering Society Gold Award-winning recording engineer, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Recording Arts and Sciences and Viola Performance from the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University, and a Master’s degree in Viola Performance under the guidance of Professor Choong-Jin Chang. Recipient of the 37th Chimei Arts Award, Ching joined the Philadelphia Orchestra violas section in May 2025.
Invited as an orchestra academy member and principal violist in the 2018 and 2019 Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival as the youngest member of the orchestra, she earned abundant experiences in chamber music and orchestra. She was awarded a full scholarship in 2020 Taipei Music Academy and Festival and 2022 Aspen School of Music. Additionally, she was a member of the New York String Orchestra in winter 2023. Hsiang-Hsin is a substitute violist in the National Symohony Orchestra.
As a chamber musician, she joined the Texas Chamber Music Institute with the Nosremé Quartet as the Quartet-in-Residence. In summer 2023 and 2024, she also attended the Taos School of Music and the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. Her musical achievements include winning First Prize in the 2024 Mary Graham Lesley Concerto Competition and the Third Prize in the 2024 Yale Gordon Competition, she also appeared as a quarter-finalist in the prestigeous Primrose International Viola Competition in 2024. Her performances have been featured in numerous venues across Europe, Asia, and the United States, including cities like Taipei, Changhua, Kaohsiung, Tokyo, Berlin, Hamburg, Lübeck, Plön, New York City, and Philadelphia. Hsiang-Hsin's diverse musical experiences and unwavering dedication to her craft are a testament to her passion for music.
